Weekly Devotion: Psalm 147; Ecclesiastes 3;7

Calvin College is a snowtown again. If I am recalling correctly, I learned in my high school that poets used to connect themselves with snow a lot. I remember reading a specific poem that starts with a narrator walking on the snow with a girl who seems to be his daughter. The narrator soon mourns because it was actually a portion his memory of the girl who is now dead. The time passes, and the narrator is out on the snow walking with a girl again. This time, the girl asks to the narrator, "where does the snow come from?" I cannot precisely remember how he answered, but I think he answered that God created the snow and sent it down to earth.

We discussed in the class that God takes huge part in the poem and found a theme of snow that symbolized a bandage that covered the wound of the narrator. Although snow may be his reflection of pain and sorrow, God sent snow again, but the narrator was thankful for the snow while he was remembering his lost daughter. And he was standing on the snow with his second child enjoying the time with her.

What made him to be thankful even though his first child was dead?

I think it is related with humility. He acknowledge the fact that there is nothing he can do about it. Grieving will not a be wise choice though it is an important part. If he was lamenting about the dead child all the time, I do not think he is making a wise choice. It will only hurt and be painful although it may have been God's plan to lead him to greater happiness.

I may have been a image of the narrator who grieves all the time about his destiny after unfortunate incident.

Psalm 147:3~6 "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; his understanding is infinite. The LORD supports the afflicted." (NASB)

I have one chance called life. Then, I should be having fun with this full boost and energy so that I will not leave regret though having regret does helps us to grow. Anyway, I wish my life to be a fine book of journey. A book that has a collection of wonderful stories. And the book is beautiful inside out.

Ecclesiastes 3:12 "I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live"
Ecclesiastes 3:22 "So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?"
Ecclesiastes 7:16~17 "Do not be over-righteous, neither be over-wise, why destroy yourself? Do not be over-wicked, and do not be a fool, why die before your time?"

Solomon's Prayer Then Solomon said, "You have shown great loving kindness to Your servant David my father, according as he walked before You in truth and righteousness and uprightness of heart toward You; and You have reserved for him this great lovingkindness, that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David, yet I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. Your servant is in the midst of Your people which You have chosen, a great people who are too many to be numbered or counted. So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?" It was pleasing in the sight of the LORD that Solomon had asked this things. God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor h
